Pearls on a String: Numerous Stellar Clusters Strung Along the Same Orbit

چکیده

Stars originate from the dense interstellar medium, which exhibits filamentary structure to scales of $\sim 1$ kpc in galaxies like our Milky Way. We explore quantitatively how much resulting large-scale correlation there is among different stellar clusters and associations \emph{orbit phase space}, characterized here by actions angles. As a starting point, we identified 55 prominent overdensities 6D space orbit (actions) orbital (angles), $\sim$ 2.8 million stars with radial velocities Gaia EDR3 $d \leq 800$ pc. then explored \emph{phase} distribution all sample same \emph{orbit} patch as any one these overdensities. find that very commonly numerous other distinct exist along orbits, pearls on string. These `pearls' range known loose, unrecognized associations. Among patches defined initial orbit-phase overdensity 50\% contain at least 8 additional orbital-phase 10 cataloged members; 20\% them 20 pearls. This contrast matching sampled smooth mock catalog, or offset nearby patches, where are only 2 (or 5, respectively) comparable Our findings quantify for first time common it star form phases nearly orbit. may eventually offer new way probe medium.

String of pearls around the brainstem: A case of neurosarcoidosis.

A 35-year-old woman presented with 2 months of chronic headache. Her history was remarkable for bilateral uveitis. There was no nuchal rigidity or neurologic deficit. CSF revealed a lymphocytic pleocytosis, elevated protein, and hypoglycorrhachia (23 mg/dL). Culture for acid-fast bacilli was negative. Chest x-ray revealed bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy. There was an increased CD4/CD8 ratio in ...

The Formation of Stellar Clusters

We review recent work that investigates the formation of stellar clusters, ranging in scale from globular clusters through open clusters to the small scale aggregates of stars observed in T associations. In all cases, recent advances in understanding have been achieved through the use of state of the art stellar dynamical and gas dynamical calculations, combined with the possibility of intercom...

A String of Pearls: Proofs of Fermat's Little Theorem

We discuss mechanised proofs of Fermat’s Little Theorem in a variety of styles, focusing in particular on an elegant combinatorial “necklace” proof that has not been mechanised previously. What is elegant in prose turns out to be long-winded mechanically, and so we examine the effect of explicitly appealing to group theory. This has pleasant consequences both for the necklace proof, and also fo...

From beads on a string to the pearls of regulation: the structure and dynamics of chromatin.

The assembly of eukaryotic chromatin, and the bearing of its structural organization on the regulation of gene expression, were the central topics of a recent conference organized jointly by the Biochemical Society and Wellcome Trust. A range of talks and poster presentations covered topical aspects of this research field and illuminated recent advances in our understanding of the structure and...

The Youngest Stellar clusters Clusters associated with massive protostellar candidates

We report on the identification of 54 embedded clusters around 217 massive protostellar candidates of which 34 clusters are new detections. The embedded clusters are identified as stellar surface density enhancements in the 2 µm All Sky Survey (2MASS) data. Because the clusters are all associated with massive stars in their earliest evolutionary stage, the clusters should also be in an early st...
